This California law was always a political stunt dressed up as legislation that was unconstitutional, unenforceable and designed to obstruct federal immigration enforcement. The 9th Circuit blocking it proves the Supremacy Clause still means something. Democrats knew this law wouldn't survive legal scrutiny but passed it anyway to score political points.
Democratic narrative
This law is crucial for preventing masked, unidentified agents from detaining people without displaying badges, which is a recipe for abuse and dangerous impersonation. The law has clear carve-outs for SWAT, undercover work and health protections. Transparency isn't anti-law enforcement — it's essential to public safety.
