The Spin

Narrative A

Ben-Gvir's stunt at the flotilla detention facility — forcing detainees to kneel while he waved a flag and mocked them on camera — was political theater for a domestic audience hungry for domination. Multiple foreign governments condemned it as a violation of international law, and even Netanyahu publicly rebuked his own minister. This is the Israeli far right unmasked, and polls show it's gaining ground fast.

Narrative B

After Oct. 7, many Israelis stopped apologizing for projecting strength, and Ben-Gvir's flotilla footage was a deliberate message of deterrence to activists who knowingly entered a restricted security zone to manufacture a media spectacle. Most detainees were processed and deported within days, meaning the outrage was driven by symbolism, not actual mistreatment. Ben-Gvir is delivering exactly what he was elected to deliver — unapologetic sovereignty.
