Version 7.6.2
The cockroach metaphor has merit — resilience over superficial brilliance is a worthy ideal. But the CJI's use of "cockroach" and "parasite" to describe RTI activists and unemployed youth is deeply problematic. Such language carries a documented history of genocidal dehumanization, flagged explicitly under international law. No clarification undoes that harm or the message it sends about whose grievances the judiciary values.
The CJI's remarks were directed at fraudsters using fake degrees to infiltrate law and media — not at struggling youth broadly — and media reports stripped that context entirely. Sensational online snippets circulated before any full account existed, turning a targeted criticism into a national outrage built on distortion. Courtroom reporting carries a precision threshold, and this episode shows what happens when that standard gets abandoned for clicks.
