Third Death in 44 Days at Texas ICE Detention Camp

Is ICE providing safe, humane care at detention facilities, or are camps like Camp East Montana sites of abuse and neglect?

The Spin

Right narrative

Border policies that released individuals on parole created the conditions requiring expanded detention capacity in the first place, and ICE is doing its best to get criminals off the street and treat them humanely. ICE provides comprehensive medical care with 24-hour emergency access and health screenings within 12 hours of arrival. The Obama administration allowed 56 deaths in ICE custody without public outcry, yet current operations are facing disproportionate scrutiny.

Left narrative

Camp East Montana is a humanitarian disaster with a disturbing pattern of threatening and harming detained immigrants. The facility at Fort Bliss, hastily opened despite congressional warnings, has become the country's largest immigration detention center, where preventable deaths continue. A complete and transparent investigation into conditions at this sprawling tent camp is absolutely necessary.
