Wisconsin Judge Resigns After Felony Conviction

Is Judge Dugan a victim of political lawfare, or a convicted felon who couldn't continue to sit on the bench?

The Spin

Republican narrative

Justice has been served now that this activist judge was found guilty and forced to resign. Dugan was convicted by a federal jury of felony obstruction for helping a domestic abuser, who sent two victims to the hospital, slip out a back door while federal officers waited. No accusations from her about being the victim of lawfare have any legitimacy.

Democratic narrative

Dugan has done the right thing for Wisconsin by resigning but her prosecution is a case of lawfare against an independent judiciary. She directed a defendant to a public hallway where he was immediately arrested anyway, yet faces five years for exercising her authority to control courtroom procedures. This politically motivated case should never have been brought.
