The US tested an intercontinental ballistic missile,North Korea passed a law allowing first use and making its nuclear policy "irreversible,"at least 35 civilians were killed in a convoy attack in Burkina Faso,and at least six people were killed in a Russian embassy suicide attack in Kabul.

Russia-Ukraine

Ukraine made major gains in its counteroffensive to retake territory this week, with Russian forces withdrawing from key strategic areas in the northeast region of Kharkiv on Saturday.Russia says its forces are leaving "temporarily" to redeploy to the Donetsk People's Republic, as Ukraine has reportedly opened a new front on the border of Donetsk and Luhansk.Meanwhile, on Monday the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirmed that it had wrapped up its visit to Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.In a report published Tuesday, they said the situation is "not sustainable,"while the UN's secretary general repeated appeals for demilitarization around the plant.Shelling nevertheless continued near the facility and its satellite city of Enerhodar, which saw a vital back-up line to the plant repeatedly struck and disconnected throughout the week.Due to the risk, the plant's last operating reactor was shut down on Sunday to "transfer it to the safest state cold shutdown."Meanwhile, on Friday, the EU announced plans to suspend a visa-facilitation agreement with Russia.

World Politics

The UK's Queen Elizabeth II passed away at age 96, Liz Truss became the nation's new prime minister,the UN approved Austrias Volker Trk as the new human rights chief,Chilean voters rejected a proposal to replace the constitution,and a Pakistan court indicted former PM Imran Khan for criminal contempt.In other news, the US sanctioned several Iranian firms for allegedly sending drones to Russia,a report revealed that India is likely reselling Russian oil to the West,and India and China began to disengage from a disputed border.

A judge granted Trump's request for a special master to review the documents seized from Mar-a-Lago as the Justice Dept. appealed a block on the documents,and the FBI reportedly found foreign nuclear information at Trump's residence.Meanwhile, former Trump adviser Steve Bannon was indicted in New York,Trump-endorsed Geoff Diehl won the Massachusetts GOP governor primary,New Mexico county commissioner Couy Griffin was barred for his involvement in Jan. 6,Trump operatives were alleged to have accessed the Georgia county election office,and the former president called Biden an "enemy of the state".In other news, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was reported to be eyeing the ambassadorship to Italy if Republicans win the House majority.

Hamas executed five Palestinians in Gaza,Iran sentenced two women to death,and a Hong Kong court found five guilty of sedition over children's books.Meanwhile, a teacher in Ireland was jailed for violating a court order in a dispute over a student's pronouns,an Ohio college paid $36M to a bakery over false claims of racism,the US border patrol pleaded with migrants to avoid dangerous crossings,and the South Carolina Senate rejected a near-total abortion ban.In other news, the UK Fire Brigades Union announced that firefighters are set to ballot on strike action.

Israel said there's a "high possibility" its army killed Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh,a Nevada county official was arrested for the alleged murder of journalist Jeff German,a Memphis livestream shooter appeared in court,a judge denied Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes's request to delay his trial,and Uvalde, Texas schools reopened for the first time since the Robb Elementary mass shooting.Meanwhile, the second suspect in a mass stabbing in Canada died in police custody,and the trial for the 2016 Nice terrorist attack began in France.
