World Politics

The U.N.'s annual General Assembly was held in New York,featuring speeches from several leaders, including Trump,Syria's Ahmed al-Sharaa,Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas,and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu,and Iran recalled its ambassadors from Germany, France and the U.K.Elsewhere, the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development warned of the global impacts of Trump’s tariffs,Indonesia and the EU finalized a trade agreement after nine years of talks,the U.S. and Kenya discussed a trade deal,and Egypt and Rwanda signed several cooperation agreements.In other news, Trump and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva agreed to hold talks,the U.S. sanctioned the associates of several Brazilian justices,and the son of former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro was charged with coercion.This comes as Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger quit the International Criminal Court (ICC),the ICC charged the Philippines' Rodrigo Duterte with crimes against humanity,and France's Nicolas Sarkozy was sentenced to five years in jail.Meanwhile, Moldova arrested more than 70 people over alleged Russian election interference,Madagascar imposed a curfew following violent protests,Peter Mutharika won Malawi's presidential election,and Syria set Oct. 5 for the first parliamentary vote since Bashar al-Assad's fall.

US Politics

The White House directed agencies to prepare for mass firings in the case of a government shutdown,as Trump canceled a meeting to discuss the prevention of a shutdown,and the Supreme Court backed the firing of Federal Trade Commission Commissioner Rebecca Slaughter.Meanwhile, Trump signed a presidential memorandum to root out "left-wing terrorism,"as he designated antifa a domestic terrorist organization,House Democrats released over 8,000 Jeffrey Epstein documents,and Kamala Harris gave her first interview since her election defeat.In other news, former FBI Director James Comey was indicted,a Michigan congresswoman drafted articles of impeachment against Robert F. Kennedy Jr.,and the FBI allegedly recorded Trump's border czar taking a $50,000 cash bribe.This comes as the White House replaced Joe Biden's portrait with an image of an autopen,Jimmy Kimmel returned to his ABC late-night show,and Disney sought internal records related to his suspension.

Civil Liberties

Iran reportedly executed at least 1,000 between Jan. 1 and Sept. 23,the U.N. alleged that Nicaragua is repressing dissenters beyond just its borders,and Denmark apologized to Greenlandic women who were forcibly fitted with intrauterine devices.Meanwhile, Google reinstated the YouTube accounts of several users that were removed during the COVID-19 pandemic,and China launched a campaign to regulate "negative" social media content.

Crime & Justice

Ryan Routh was found guilty of attempting to assassinate Trump,a shooting at a Dallas immigration facility left two dead,and the U.S. Secret Service disrupted a "telecommunications threat" in the New York City area.Meanwhile, Elon Musk's father was accused of child sexual abuse,and a man was arrested in the U.K. in connection with a recent cyberattack on several European airports.

Business

Trump approved a $14 billion TikTok deal that would transfer majority ownership to American investors,Amazon agreed to pay $2.5 billion to settle claims that it tricked customers into signing up for Prime,and Canada Post workers went on strike over door-to-door delivery cuts.

The U.S. Treasury considered supporting Argentina,and Germany cut its development aid budget by 8%.

Health
