The Trump administration was warned about the security risks brought on by allowing young, inexperienced DOGE staffers to have access to sensitive SSA data. Although it's unclear whether any data breach has resulted from this reckless act, it's crucial that something be done to better protect Americans' financial security and personal safety.
DOGE needed this data in order to root out waste and fraud that had been permitted by past administrations. The Supreme Court upheld the agency's right to access the data. The SSA has upheld its duty to secure the data in protected environments with proper oversight, walled off from the internet. There's been no evidence of a compromise or breach.
