Israel's war against Hamas is surely just, given the atrocities the group committed during its Oct. 7 attack. However, the war has gone on for far too long, and Israel has increasingly lost the moral high ground. Israel risks pushing Palestinians into Hamas' hands if it does not end the war and work to ensure the safety of civilians.
Though the world has largely forgotten the horrors of Oct. 7, every Israeli remembers what Hamas did that fateful day. Children were butchered and women were assaulted. Everything that has happened in Gaza since then has been in response to Hamas' barbarism. Still, Israel is a strong nation and has worked to pick up the pieces. The only way for this tragedy to end is for Hamas to surrender.
It should be clear after two years of grinding brutality that Israel's true goal is to destroy Gaza and starve its people. Nothing justifies what Israel has done in Gaza, which can only be described as genocide. Furthermore, the world has, at best, sat back and watched or, at worst, supported Israel as it butchered Gaza's people. Israel's genocidal ambitions will only come to an end when it faces meaningful consequences.
