Scotland should reject Trump's visit completely. Irrespective of his position, someone who incites insurrection and attacks democracy should not be legitimized. His golf courses don't justify rolling out the red carpet for division and authoritarianism. Young Scots may be drawn to dangerous strongman politics, but principled leadership must be chosen over economic opportunism.
Trump's return to Scotland shouldn't be met with childish protests. He owns two golf courses employing 600 people, attracts vital tourism, and has genuine Scottish roots. With whisky exports at risk from his policies, positive engagement makes practical sense. As America's elected leader and the U.K.'s most powerful ally, Trump's visit must be treated with the upmost respect, not contempt.
