These criminal organizations operate as terrorist groups and have effectively declared war on America. Military action represents a necessary escalation to protect American lives when traditional law enforcement has failed to stem the crisis.
Unilateral military strikes in Mexico would violate international law and constitute an act of aggression against a cooperative neighbor and major trading partner. Such operations could backfire by increasing violence, displacing communities who might seek asylum in the U.S., and destroying crucial bilateral cooperation on multiple fronts.
