The Spin

Pro-Trump narrative

Markwayne Mullin is exactly the kind of no-nonsense leader DHS needs right now. Backed by the National Border Patrol Council and the Teamsters, Mullin has pledged to protect the homeland for every American — including Kentucky — and vowed to set aside partisan bickering to get the job done. The 8-7 committee vote proves broad confidence in his ability to restore order at a department that desperately needs strong, decisive leadership.

Anti-Trump narrative

Mullin has no law enforcement experience and dodged answers about a mysterious overseas trip. Democrats are right to be alarmed — Mullin has condoned political violence and his lack of experience makes him a liability to the mission of the Department of Homeland Security.
