World Politics

The US recognized opposition candidate Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia as the winner of Venezuela's presidential election,which saw at least 17 people die amid widespread protests againstNicolas Maduro's win,protests over the deaths and detainments of student demonstrators turned violent in Bangladesh -- killing at least 80 on Sunday alone --and Turkey passed a contentious law to keep stray dogs off the streets.Meanwhile, US intelligence warned that foreign actors are seeking to influence this year's presidential election,as the FBI prepared to resume talks with social media companies over potential foreign threats,a senior North Korean diplomat who defected to the South claimed Pyongyang would resume nuclear talks with the US if Donald Trump becomes president,and American citizens Evan Gershkovich and Paul Whelan were freed in a prisoner swap with Russia.

US Politics

Kamala Harris was officially chosen to be the Democratic presidential nominee,as a Bloomberg News/Morning Consult poll placed her one point ahead of Donald Trump in the race to the White House,and North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper and Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer dropped off Harris' list of potential running mates,with her vice presidential candidate expected to be announced next week.This comes as a YouGov survey found that most Republicans would prefer a president under 75,prison reform advocates urged Harris to drop her "tough on crime" rhetoric,and X suspended and then reinstated a pro-Harris account.Meanwhile, Trump defended prior comments made by his running mate, JD Vance,the former president agreed to sit for an interview with the FBI to discuss the recent attempt on his life,and the director of the Heritage Foundation's 2025 Presidential Transition Project stepped down.In other news, Pres.
