Peru Election 2026

Peru held its general elections on April 12, 2026, with voting extended into April 13 in some regions due to logistical disruptions. No presidential candidate secured more than 50% of the vote, triggering a runoff scheduled for June 7. Preliminary and still-evolving results show that Keiko Fujimori of the Fuerza Popular (Popular Force) party has secured first place, with roughly 16–17% of the vote. However, the second-place candidate has shifted as vote counting progressed. Early returns suggested a runoff between Fujimori and Rafael “Porky” López Aliaga of Renovación Popular (Popular Renewal). But as rural ballots were counted, Roberto Sánchez of the Juntos por el Perú (Together for Peru) party overtook López Aliaga. The race — featuring a record 35 candidates — also included notable figures such as Alfonso López-Chau of the Ahora Nación (Now Nation) party, Carlos Álvarez of the País Para Todos (Country for All) party, and Ricardo Belmont of the Partido Cívico OBRAS (Civic WORKS) party.
