Anti-China narrative
After promising a separate system for Hong Kong in 1997, Beijing deprived its people of freedom, launched major crackdowns on dissent, and imposed draconian national security rules to aggressively prosecute pro democracy and media freedom advocates. These sanctions hold to account those responsible for punishing peaceful speech and civil society activism.
Pro-China narrative
This is a sinister action to undermine Hong Kong's prosperity and stability, slander the city's rule of law, smear the One Country, Two Systems framework, and suppress China's development. The sanctions are not only a blatant interference in the PRC's internal affairs but also an attempt to mislead the public with lies and a serious violation of the principles of international law.
